The 2008-2009 school year begins my 35th year of
teaching - seventh grade - at Coppinville! I am sure that indicates something
about my personality, but I am uncertain just what! If practice makes perfect
one might think I am approaching at least "good".
This picture of me was taken a few years ago!

-
I have B.S. and M.S. degrees from Troy State University.
-
Though I have been a "grand-teacher" for quite a few years now, I
hope to continue to teach for a few more years.
-
I have a lovely daughter, Rebecca, who teaches seventh grade
English within shouting distance of my room. After teaching
several years in Florida she has returned to Enterprise and landed
right here at Coppinville.
-
Rebecca and I know we deserve to win the lottery so that we may share our
winnings with my seventh grade students . . . if we would just remember to
buy tickets every once in a while.
-
I have a son, Shelby, who is an engineer with Aerojet in Tennessee.
When he isn't busy solving complicated metallurgical, material or
aeronautical engineering problems he paints role playing figures.
-
Shelby is married to Toni, the absolute perfect daughter- in-law and a
graphic design artist.
-
So far my kids have given me numerous four legged, fur covered grandkids
of mixed background (ferrets, cats, dogs), but no grandchildren of the
two-legged variety.
-
My hobbies include travel, photography, pets (see pictures at the bottom
of the page), flower gardening, and reading.
-
My favorite sport is
college football. I am an Alabama/Troy fan.
Did I Do That?
Since I picked on my students on another page, I'll
confess to some of my acts of brain cramping.....
I was working at the computer recently printing out grade
spreadsheets. When I returned to the computer desk later I discovered I
could not find the spreadsheets.....anywhere...it was like they had
vanished with the other sock in the dryer. It wasn't until the next day that
I discovered I had picked them up with another stack of papers and reloaded
them into the printer.
-
I had twenty-eight pages of a list to page together. After
about twenty minutes I was pleased with my progress - until I realized I had
stapled all the page ones together, the page twos together....well you get
the idea.
-
I was once working during the summer in my room at school
and managed to lock myself in my room. Now, it was not really my
fault, the door lock came loose and jammed, but it was quite a while before
my pounding was heard by anyone. I thought I would have to stay there until
school started in August.
-
A drill bell once sounded so I hurried my class out the door
and to the safe area outside the building. Unfortunately, it was a tornado
bell and we were
supposed to be in the hallway. Luckily it was a drill and we weren't blown
away.
The following
pictures indicate why my sister thinks I need to join a help group called pets
anonymous. hey, i don't have
grandchildren, i need something to cuddle!

| Miz Chaucer, my
six- year old
long-haired Chihuahua. |
This is my son,
Shelby. Perched on his back is my Hurricane Katrina rescue kitty, Foxtrot
Freddie. |
| |
|
| Pictured below
is Bob, my grand puppy. He belongs to my daughter, Rebecca. |
This is Ricky, a long-haired Chihuahua at about 8 months
of age. The bowl he is sitting in is only about 6 inches across. |

| On the left is my
yorki-poo, Hiei
(pronounced He-A). Hiei burst a lung as a puppy and was saved by Dr.
Jennings at Enterprise Animal Hospital. On the right is Shakespeare, my eight-year old Cairn
Terrier. |
This is Reggie. She is
12+ years old. She moved into our
yard while we were out of town and wouldn't leave. She had been dumped on
our country road. Her fear of tall men might be a good indicator of how
she came to have the scar. Her partially black tongue shows she is
part chow. |

 Here
is Shakespeare in his most embarrassing moment....his head stuck in the
cookie jar.
|
This is a good friend of mine, Laura, with
her dog Miss Beasley.
(Don't believe everything you see in
print)

 |
| This is my
youngest grand-puppy, Izzy. She is 6 weeks old in this picture. A
miniature Dachshund , Izzy was a Christmas 07 gift from my son to his wife.
Izzy is very pampered and she even gets to go to work with her
"Mom". |
This is Annie,
the newest member of my canine family. She is a 3 lb. Chihuahua given to me
by a friend. She was ill-suited to her first family because of small
children. She doesn't really have alien glowing gold eyes (thank goodness),
but she does howl like something from outer space! |

 |
| This is my grand-puppy Alfred. He's
supposed to be a Pomeranian, but nobody told HIM that. He does have
a fluffy coat, but Rebecca keeps it cut short because he likes to get
dirty and go swimming in his kiddy pool. |
These are my grand-kitties Gomez and
Bronte. Gomez was born in the wall of Rebecca's trailer in college
and hand-raised. Bronte is half the size of the boy cats, but loves
to beat them up. |

| This is my
grandpuppy, Izzy. She gets to go to work with her
"Mom". In this picture she is snuggled up with her best
work buddy, Toby, the Great Dane. Izzy weighs six pounds and Toby weighs
180 pounds. |
This is Ricky, looking debonair. He
gets to be here because I had a spot left over. |
