MERCURIUS INDUSTRIES OFFICE MEMORANDUM

RE: GREEK MYTHOLOGY AGENT ASSIGNMENT

The gods and goddesses, tired of millennia driving the sun chariot across the sky, delivering souls to the underworld, and causing a plethora of natural disasters to teach foolish mortals important lessons, have decided to break into the movie biz. However, modern Hollywood is a cutthroat land which sends thousands of hopefuls home to Mommy each year! To be competitive, the Olympians are going to need talented and dedicated representation. To that end, the gods and goddesses are hiring talent agents to help them get parts in movies. You have been selected by our agency, Mercurius Industries, to represent ___________________________. As an agent, you are to create a poster presentation containing six elements to sell your client. This poster must be

  • Well organized
    Attractive/pleasing to the eye
On poster board of any color except black or a thick, "hard" project board

  • In order to convince producers, directors, and casting agencies to consider your client for movie roles, you will include the following components

a business card for directors to keep on file
a resume of major skills
a biography for publication on the Internet Movie Database, with headshot
a  movie poster based on a major myth in which your client appeared
a Wikipedia entry for the movie (the myth)
a "movie" (myth) review for Rotten Tomatoes

Remember all of this is made-up, but based on mythology. You are pretending the god or goddess is an actor and the myth is a movie!

Your poster can be organized in any way you please. It must be colorful, convincing, and entertaining. Remember, you are representing your client. You want to make your client look dynamic and interesting. In order to do that, you are going to need to do some research on your client’s talents, personality, family background, and life.

Details can be found in the table provided below..

MERCURIUS INDUSTRIES CLIENT PRESENTATION

BUSINESS CARD

A business card is small, roughly the size of a credit or debit card. A card should include a colorful graphic to catch the eye, neat, easy to read text, and basic information about the person or business. This may be hand-made or computer generated.

You will need THREE copies of this card minimum. At least one copy must be on the board. The other two will be traded to other in the class.

Necessary elements include:

Your client’s name

Your client’s motto (a catchy line or phrase)

A few important phrases or skills

RESUME

A resume is used to convince a company to hire someone. You are convincing directors that your client is smart, handsome (or beautiful!) and talented. Sample resumes can be found on-line.

The resume must be typed and printed on white paper.

Necessary Elements include:

Name

Contact Information

Job Skills

Work History

IMDB BIOGRAPHY

The Internet Movie Database has information on thousands of actors and movies. The actor entries include a short biography. Go to www.imdb.com and look up some of your favorite actors. Then write a biography for your client to post.

The bio must be typed and printed on white paper.

Your client’s bio should include:

Name and Headshot

Birth ("Ancient Times" is fine)

Parents

  Awards

Place of Birth (Greece)

A brief biography

Trivia (if desired)

MOVIE POSTER

A movie poster is designed to draw the eye and encourage potential viewers to go to the movies. Research myths in which your client played a role. Choose a myth, then create a movie poster to encourage viewers to come see the movie version. It may be set in ancient times or modernized.

The movie poster must be hand drawn and colored. It can be traced, but it can’t be computer generated.

Necessary elements include:

An eye-catching picture

An interesting movie title

Your client’s name at top

Rating (G, PG, etc)

A tagline (a quick catch phrase to draw attention)

WIKIPEDIA ENTRY

Go to www.wikipedia.org and look up a few of your favorite movies. Notice the format and information included, then write your own Wikipedia entry.

The entry must be typed and printed on white paper.

Necessary elements include:

Title

Blurb (release date, star, etc)

Summary

Trivia (Optional)

MOVIE REVIEW

Www.rottentomatoes.com is a site that compiles critics’ reviews of movies. Go there and check out a few of your favorites. You’ll notice that a review is not a summary of the movie’s events! A review can be positive or negative, but since you are an agent, you need to include an overall positive review.

The review must be typed and printed on white paper.

Necessary elements include:

Title

Rating (stars out of 5; must be 3 or above)

An opinion of the good and bad elements of the story
