Mrs. Ramos – Life Science
Open House Briefing
- Study and be familiar with
the school rules located in the handbook.
These rules contain how the
system works and what the responsibilities are.
- For
safety reasons Dress Code is in effect. (ref. SCHOOL RULES)
- Electronic
devices (i.e. cell phones, iPod, MP3, Game Boys, etc…) are not parts
of the material list. Exposed
electronic devices will not be allowed inside the classroom and they
will be forwarded to the Principal after collection. (ref. SCHOOL
RULES)
- Parent
conferences will be coordinated through the school’s counselor.
- The
first semester will be based on the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI)
and the second semester on the “Life Science” textbook. The teacher will discuss every
activity and/or section in a written and oral manner. Daily, the students will utilize writing
skills to take notes from the activities, board and verbal
discussion. Activities,
assigned lectures and notes are the primary reference for study.
Study guides may be given prior to evaluation tests.
- Students
will always bring their planner notebook to class.
- Students
will take note of all homework, grades, and any other relevant
information in their planner notebook. Daily, parents can be aware of the student progress by
reading the planner notebooks.
- It
is important to turn-in the Science Journal and/or daily work at the
end of every session. It is the responsibility of the
student to remember to keep up to date the Science Journal, daily
work, or any other course requirement specially when absent. Assignments or projects will be
collected when scheduled. The
calendar of topics established by the Science Department must be
completed as planned.
- Absences
are not an excuse for not knowing the progress of the course. It is the responsibility of the
Student and Parents to keep track of the course and assignments by using:
- Son/daughter
planner notebook and/or notes
- Other
students planner notebooks and/or notes
- School
website
- Homework
Hotline
- Overall
grade is based on:
- Daily
Work (Science Journal)- 40%
- Test-
30%
- Quiz
- 20%
- Homework- 10%
- “Materials
left in lockers” will not be accepted as an excuse for not turning
assignments or projects on time.
This will equal a zero.
Delays other than excusable
reasons outlined in the school rules will impact grades. (ref. SCHOOL RULES- ABSENCES.)
- Any work or test without a student
name will equal a zero.
- Good
performance should be maintained from the very beginning of the
school year. Assignments for
extra credit will not be given.
- The
final grade will reflect the student’s performance throughout the
entire school year.
- Make-up
evaluations, regardless of the situation, will not necessarily be
the same as the originals.
- A
departmental test will be administrated at the end of every nine
weeks. The test will cover
the chapters previously discussed during those nine weeks.

means having clear consequences for not meeting the goals.” Bill Gates
