The mission of Coppinville Junior High
School is to provide the opportunity for all students to master grade-level
skills in accordance with the Alabama State Course of Study. The opportunity
will be provided regardless of previous academic performance, family background,
socioeconomic status, race, or gender. It is our purpose to challenge all
students to achieve high levels of academic performance while fostering positive
social/emotional behaviors and attitudes.
Our Beliefs -
- Student learning is our chief priority, and we believe all students can
learn.
- Every student is a valued individual with unique physical, social,
emotional, and intellectual needs.
- Students learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process
and are given appropriate opportunities for success.
- The responsibility for advancing the school's mission is shared by
teachers, administrators, parents, and the community.
- In order to enable students to become confident, self-directed, life-long
learners, we must be committed to continuous improvement.
- Positive relationships and mutual respect among and between students and
staff enhance a student's self-esteem.
- School should function as a learning organization and
promote opportunities for all those who have a stake in the success of the
school.
- Assessments should provide students with a variety of
opportunities to demonstrate their expected achievement.
- Student learning is promoted by a safe and physically
comfortable environment.
Each student is expected to study English, social studies,
mathematics, science, physical education and an elective. The year-long
electives offered in the school year 2007-2008 are art, band, choral music, and reading.
Additionally students may choose the semester courses
of art/technology or CDD/technology. Students must pass five of
the six subjects for the year in order to be promoted to the eighth grade.

Expectations
As part
of our continuing School Improvement Plan and in accordance with our
Mission Statement, we have begun a new program for the 2007-2008 School Year.
Each week on Mondays,
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays all students are attending Eagle's
Classes. These small classes of twenty students or less meet
specifically to practice for the Alabama Reading and Math (ARMT) assessment they
will take in the Spring of 2008. On Monday and Tuesday, reading
skills are practiced and on Thursday and Friday, math skills are practiced.
There is no home work assigned in these classes.
It is the
hope of the administration and faculty that this reinforcement will arm the students with the
skills and confidence to do well on the ARMT. Since the ARMT is the
forerunner for the Alabama High School Graduation Exam we further
hope that this will help the students prepare for it and graduate in a timely
manner.
